I said thank you. The country started talking.
After I recovered from COVID-19, I publicly thanked President Donald Trump for bringing attention to the treatment my doctor prescribed. I told my story in my own words—and it traveled from Detroit to the White House and across national television.
“I did not know that saying thank you had a political line. I thought just saying thank you meant thank you.”
I was not telling anyone else what to do. I was telling my story, my truth and what I experienced.

Karen and Jason were invited to Washington for a public roundtable with President Trump, Vice President Pence, recovered patients, family members and others directly affected by COVID-19. It was a chance to tell Detroit’s story directly—and to ask that help reach the people who needed it.

The visit moved from the Eisenhower Executive Office Building to the recovered- patients roundtable and the Oval Office. Karen spoke about her recovery, access to care and what families in Detroit were facing in the first weeks of the pandemic.
